Dragnet Movie Review Summary

Actors: Tom Hanks, Dan Aykroyd, Christopher Plummer

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Dragnet

This is a movie based on the popular 1950's TV series of the same name, given a comic slant. Detective Pep Streebek (Tom Hanks) is the new partner of Sgt. Joe Friday (Dan Aykroyd) in the Los Angeles Police Force. Joe is uptight and a stickler for the rules, while Pep is more chatty and laid back. Together, they have a bizarre crime to solve. At first, they don't get along too well, but gradually come to like and respect one another.

SPOLERS Their investigation begins when items, seemingly not associated with each other, are stolen. These range from a wedding dress to the mane of a lion. In trying to find the reason for these thefts, the cops discover a weird cult known as P.A.G.A.N., standing for People Against Goodness and Normalcy. Joe and Pep smuggle themselves into a cult ceremony and are shocked to witness the leader trying to sacrifice a young woman named Connie. The two cops save Connie from her fate, and it's obvious that Connie and Joe like each other. Investigating further, Joe and Pep find out the cult has been stealing chemicals to make a poisonous gas. By chance, when in a restaurant with Joe and Pep, Connie sees the cult leader and identifies him to the detectives. He is a TV evangelist called Jonathan and friends with Joe's boss. When Joe tries to arrest him, his boss takes him and Pep off the case. Later, Connie and Joe are kidnapped by one of the cult, and we learn that Jonathan intends to kill the Mayor by using the poisonous gas. Later, Joe leads his men to the mansion where the murder is set to take place. The police and the cult members shoot it out, and Jonathan gets away, taking Connie as a hostage. Joe rescues her and they are reunited. He and Pep continue their partnership and are good friends.

Best part of story, including ending: It's a good spoof on an old-fashioned crime TV show

Best scene in story: I like the scene in the restaurant because of the banter between the main characters

Opinion about the main character: I like Joe's devotion to getting justice
