Ingrid is not appreciated at her job, and is over-worked by her boss at a record label. the record label is throwing the biggest and best party on New Year's Eve. Paul who is a free-spirited skater notices this. He needs tickets for this party so he tries to help her break out of the doldrums of her routine existence. She quits her job to fulfill her list of things she wants to do and hires Paul to help her, promising him tickets to the most fantastic New Year's Eve party that Paul wants so much to attend. As Paul and Ingrid spend time together. Paul realizes that Ingrid is the real prize not just the tickets. Laura is the caterer in charge of the party. Ava is her helper who is crazy about the singer Jensen who will perform at the party.

Tess and Griffin are in the hospital waiting for the birth of their baby, when they discover that they are up against another couple, Grace and James for a $25,000 prize to have the first baby born in the New Year. Randy hates New Year's and doesn't want to have anything to do with the celebrations even though his roommate Paul encourages him to go out and party. Elise and Randy get trapped together in an elevator, spending New Year's Eve stuck in the elevator getting to know each other.

Sam has to give a big speech at a party that night but all he can think about is the girl he met on the New Year's Eve one year before. His only hope to see her again is to go back to where they met one year earlier with the hope that she will remember him and try to find him again at the agreed location they promised to meet one year later. Everything blocks Sam from making this happen but he does succeed to find the girl of his dreams waiting for him.

Seth and Hailey are teenagers. Hailey must sneak away from her mom Kim who is over-protective so she can meet Seth at Times Square to get her first kiss. Stan is an old man dying in the hospital who only wants to see one more New Year's celebration and has chosen the hospital for the view. Stan convinces the nurse Aimee to break all the hospital rules to take him to the roof so he can see the festivities and die in peace.
Best part of story, including ending: Everyone in this movie has a different experience of New Year's Eve and each one learns something really important by what happens to them.

Best scene in story: I like the scene when Sam is desperate to get back to New York and he gets picked up by a preacher in a bus full of believers. When he offers to pay for the gas to drive him back to New York, the preacher asks him what is the limit of his credit card. This is very funny.

Opinion about the main character: There is no single main character in this movie because it is about many people's experiences during a certain time. So the time becomes the main theme and it is about renewal and hope.
