The traditional holiday is taken to the extreme in this movie. Each couple is ripped apart by the circumstances that they must deal with. A guy that is a florist named Reed (played by Ashton Kutcher) proposes to his girlfriend Morley (played by Jessica Alba). All of Reed's friends think this is impossible and later the same day Morley dumps him, proving their analysis was correct. Julia Roberts plays the character Kate, who is on leave from the military for a short period. Kate meets a guy on the plane named Holden (played by Bradley Cooper) and is very attracted to him. Julia (played by Jennifer Gardner) is an elementary teacher who has fallen in love with Harrison who is a doctor (played by Patrick Dempsey). Dr. Harrison neglects to tell Julia that he is already married. Harrison goes off on a business trip to the San Francisco Bay Area. Julia follows him. When Julia goes to the hospital where Harrison is supposed to be working, she learns that not only is Harrison married, but he is having a dinner date with his wife that very night. Julia disguises herself as a waitress to crash Harrison's romantic encounter with his wife, to destroy him. Pamela (played by Katherine La Nasa) suspects her husband is playing around and leaves him because of this.

That night, Grace (played by Emma Roberts) makes a date for sex with her boyfriend Alex, (played by Carter Jenkins) to break her virginity. The plan fails after Grace's mother finds Alex nude in Grace's room singing a song he wrote for Grace. Willy (played by Taylor Lautner) and Felicia (played by Taylor Swift), are Grace's newest friends. They agree to postpone any sex until after they are married. This gets popularized on television.

Sean (played by Eric Dane), thinks his professional football career is over, because he wants to tell everyone he is gay. Two ladies that work with him support his decision, Kara (played by Jessica Biel) who does publicity for him and Paula (played by Queen Latifah) who is his agent. All of them hate Valentine's Day. They meet up with Kelvin (played by Jamie Foxx) who also hates Valentine's Day.

As the movie resolves everyone finds the love they are looking for. Sean tells everyone he is gay on national TV. Holden tells Sean he loves him. Kate gains new respect for Edison her son. Felicia and Willy share an intimate kiss but no more. Kara and Kelvin get together. Alfonso makes up with his wife. Alex and Grace postpone sex until after they are married. Edgar gets back with Estelle. Jason and Liz find love for each other. There is a strong potential in a romantic relationship between Reed and Morley.
Best part of story, including ending: All the mistaken efforts to find romance lead the characters to their ultimate discovery about the meaning of love. This is very rewarding.

Best scene in story: I like the scene when Grace tells her parents that she is going to have sex with Alex but it is not as important as they think because it is casual sex which is not the same as love in a committed relationship.

Opinion about the main character: Grace is very healthy with her inner feelings about sex and she handles herself really well.
