Ramona and Beezus Movie Review Summary

Actors: Jey King, Selena Gomez

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Ramona and Beezus

This is the story about how two sisters get along and when they don't. Ramona (played by Joey King) is in the third grade. Her older sister is named Beatrice (played by Selena Gomez) but she calls her "Beezus" since that is what she called her sister when she was very little, being not able to pronounce her name correctly. Their father gets laid off. Ramona hears him say they are deeply in debt and may have to sell the house. Ramona decides she is going to make some money to help the family.

First she tries to sell lemonade. She gives her sister a cup, but a fly lands in it causing her to spit it out all over the boy she has a crush on named Henry Huggins (played by Hutch Dano). Ramona then tries a car wash but ruins her neighbor's car with paint instead of using soap. Her dad gives Ramona a raw egg instead of a boiled one in her lunch which Ramona discovers when she cracks it on her head at school to eat it. With her hair full of raw egg that won't come out, she gets her school picture taken. She makes a bad face in the photo when the photographer says to her "say peas" because she hates peas. She gets sick at school and vomits. Her Dad comes to take her home. She tries to help cook the family dinner but almost sets the kitchen on fire. She picks up the phone to hear her sister on the other extension. Beatrice is talking with the boy she likes. She screams at Ramona to get off the phone because she is ruining her love life. They think the boy hung up so Ramona asks what is a "love life?" Beatrice explains how she feels about the boy and after that she realizes he heard everything she said.

Ramona's cats dies. This is one moment when her older sister comforts her and helps her bury the cat in the backyard. Ramona picks up the hose and by accident squirts the neighbors which starts a water fight.
Both families jump in. Ramona's dad sneaks over to the neighbor's yard to turn on their sprinklers drenching them all but also breaks the pipe in the process which floods the backyard. Ramona goes up in the attic while the open house is going on to get away, then falls partially through the ceiling to the surprise of everyone below. Ramona's father chastises her for her antics. Because of this Ramona decides to run away. Ramona's mom helps her pack but secretly puts a bowling ball in her suitcase so she cannot go very far.

Ramona's dad gets another job, so they don't have to sell the house. Ramona's Aunt rekindles a long-lost love and gets married. Ramona's sister gets a kiss from the boy she likes and they all are happy except for Ramona's teacher who realizes she still has the rest of the year to deal with Ramona's crazy behavior.
Best part of story, including ending: It is fun to see that no matter what Ramona tries to do, she makes a mess of it unintentionally.

Best scene in story: I like when Ramona gets her sister to explain on the telephone about a "love life" and neither of them know that the boy that Ramona's sister likes, is still on the telephone listening to every word.

Opinion about the main character: Ramona is like a female "Dennis the Menace." She is not intentionally bad, just stuffs happens. That's why we like her.
