Detailed plot synopsis reviews of 9

When a scientist is commanded in the future to create an intelligent machine by its malevolent dictator, the scientist reluctantly obeys. However, he's dismayed when the dictator attaches his intelligent machine to massive construct called The Fabrication Machine, which was designed to build terrifying machines to protect the dictator's rule. Once The Fabrication Machine becomes intelligent, it devises a plan to destroy all life via chemical warfare. Shortly before death, the scientist uses a magical talisman to place pieces of his soul within nine different rag dolls. As the ninth one is created, he dies. When the ninth, labeled with a large 9 on his torso, wakes up, he takes the talisman and is surprised to find the world totally destroyed. Another of the dolls, 2, finds 9 and puts a voicebox within him, enabling him to communicate with the others. However, before 2 can lead 9 to the rest of the dolls, a huge cat-like machine grabs 2 and the talisman, scampering off. Luckily for 9, he is found by the others, and their leader, 1, declares 2 to be dead. 9 saw the factory where the cat-machine ran toward, so he volunteers to lead a mission to see if he's alive. When they arrive, they are saved from the cat-machine by 7, the female of the group, who kills it singlehandedly. 9 makes an egregious error though, when he places the talisman inadvertently into the Fabrication Machine, which enables it to suck 2's soul from the rag doll into the machine. This gives the Fabrication Machine new life, and it begins creating new monstrous machines to seek them out and kill them. As new creations swarm the world to destroy the dolls, it is up to 9 to lead the pack back into the factory to destroy the Fabrication Machine once and for all.

Best part of story, including ending: It's not the most interesting story-- some of it is a little dense-- but the animation is certainly gorgeous, and it's unlike anything you've ever seen.

Best scene in story: The opening sequence, in which 9 wakes up and explores the world, creates a sense of wonder that the rest of the film can't match.

Opinion about the main character: 9 is endlessly curious, which gets him into trouble here and there, but it certainly makes him endearing.
