No Less than Victory Book Summary and Study Guide

This story is told by a few brave men from both sides of the conflict. The details of the battles, preparation and planning is very accurate. The book itself would be a nonfiction if it didn't consist of conversations and dialogs between the various soldiers involved. On the American side depict three soldiers, two of which are the renowned Generals Eisenhower and Patton. On the German side is General Field Marshal Rundstedt. The book shifts back and forth form these various soldiers.

The book not only depicts commanders, but we also are introduced to the basic foot soldiers. A newly arrive infantry soldier Private Benson. He is thrown right into action as a green soldier when the Battle of the Bugle commences. He is frightened, confused and overwhelmed. The book will follow his journey throughout the final days of the war.

No Less than Victory details the Battle of the Bulge and the massive build up of Axis troops along the Belgium border. The surprised winter attack by the Nazi's catches the entire Allied forces command off guard. Drastic and instant actions are portrayed throughout the book.

The book ends in May of 1945 at the fall of Third Reich. An overall detailed and graphic portray of last six months of the war on the Western Theater.

Best part of story, including ending: No Less than Victory very well gives the reader a better understanding of the German military hierarchy and how it functioned during the war. This will help the reader to clearly understand why even when defeat was looming why the German officers continues to fight on.

Best scene in story: The surprised attack by the Germans on a cold and cloudy December morning in 1944 in the Argonne Forest. The detailed accounts by the Americans GI's at this time. Their fears confusions and honor.

Opinion about the main character: This book has a few main characters, each have their likes and dislikes. For example General Patton, he is loved by some and hated by others.
