Croak Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Croak

Lexington Bartleby is a delinquent 17 year old girl. She used to be a straight A student and turned into a bully in two years. After the upteenth time of being sent to the principles office Lexington is told by her parents that she is being sent away for the summer to her Uncle Mort's farm. Lexington also has a twin sister named cordy, who are basically identical. They both are olive complexion, small nose, and large, almost back eyes. All they know about uncle Mort is that he lives on a farm, at least as far as they know. After Lexington is put on a bus to her uncle Mort's farm she sees a grisly car crash that is caused by a tractor trailor that jackknifed on the road. That happen to hit three cars. While they are going past the crash site she notices really bright flashes of light, but when she asks her bus partner, he doesn't seem to even see anything.

When Lexington gets to her destination she notices that the place is basically covered in nothing but trees and that her uncle is not there. So she starts walking, not really know which way to go. She then hears a roar of a motorcycle and it stops next to her. She isn't sure whether to actually believe that he is her uncle Mort, but she goes with him. After about five minutes on the motorcycle with Mort, Lexington starts the think he is a lunatic. She learns that her uncle actually lives in a town called Croak. With a population of 78, now 79 because she is there.
Lexington's uncle decides its time she knows what he actually does. So he takes her to a hill top over the town and tells her that he is a killer. That the place he lives is actually a portal between the world they live in and the afterlife. After a few days she is actually ready to start the family business. Which she finds out that she has to be up and dawn everyday and work ten hours with a hour lunch. She finds out she has to have a partner. Her new partner is actually a boy that lives with her uncle. His name is Driggs and he has one brown eye and one blue eye. One person is a Killer and the other is a Culler. A killer is someone that gets the soul out of the body, while the Culler is someone who makes sure the souls get into the vessel.
Lexington finds out that the vessels are made out of spider web and the Afterlife is where all souls are sent to. But the souls actually do not realize they are dead for a while. After a while Lexington learns about crashers. All because people are unexpectedly dying that are not meant to die just yet. There eyes are pure white. Its about two months before they start putting all the pieces together. But the one piece they never even thought of was that Zara, who is a junior Grim is the one causing the killings. She tries to make Lexington join her in Killing the people she has been killing. She is killing in the pattern of the people are criminals. Who have gotten away with their crimes.
But while Lexington finds all this out her sister is murdered by Zara. After Lexington goes to her sisters funeral, Lexington decides its high time she get back to Croak where she feels she really belongs. Never to really ever see her parents again.

Best part of story, including ending: I really liked that she is a "typical" teenager and finds out that she is actually chosen to be a grim reaper.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene would be when she meets her new partner Driggs and she hits him because she is mad. But he hits her back in response and she is actually shocked. Because most people she hit on would cower down from her, instead of stand up to her.

Opinion about the main character: I like the fact that she acts like no ones thoughts or feelings of her matter, but actually certain peoples thoughts and feelings actually do matter to her.
