Lilah Beardon has always led a fairly quiet life on a working farm where she and her brother have been helping their father since childhood. Their mother is less helpful with farm work, and as Lilah has spent more time with him, has formed a stronger bond with her father.

When she discovers her father lying facedown in the manure of the slurry pit on their farm, she at first believes his death to be an accident. But after local police are called in and some clues come to light, it is apparent that his death is the result of foul play.

Because Guy Beardon was not well liked in the community, there are quite a few people who might like to see him dead. From elderly and eccentric neighboring farmers to estranged half siblings, there are never a lack of suspects to consider in this unusual crime.

Lilah and her brother help local police to solve the mystery. Lilah shares clues and thoughts with the local detective, whom she used to attend school with, and they form a romantic bond while trying to identify the killer.
Best part of story, including ending: I liked the setting and the concept.

Best scene in story: Probably the scene where the body was found because it was the most interesting part.

Opinion about the main character: She was somewhat dull, and not that likeable.
