Fighting Movie Review Summary

Actors: Channing Tatum, Terrence Howard, Zulay Henao, Michael Rivera

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Fighting

This is the story about underground fighting in New York. Channing Tatum plays the lead character of Sean MacArthur. He is a street-wise hustler trying to make a buck. He sells counterfeit goods on the sidewalks in New York. The best places are the corners in the most popular areas. He tries a place near Radio City Music Hall. A gang run by Harvey Boarden (played by Terrence Howard) attacks him. They force him out, taking all his cash and his stuff.

When Sean sees the gang again with Harvey, he challenges them. Harvey invites Sean to participate in an underground fight where the winner gets all the prize money; the loser gets nothing. Harvey introduces Sean to the organizer of the fights, a guy named Martinez (played by Luis Guzmán). Sean fights a Russian in an abandoned church. Sean wins. He goes to a club with Harvey to celebrate the victory. At the club, he sees Zulay (played by Zulay Henao). He remembers her from before when he tried to sell her counterfeit goods on the street. In the same club, he sees Evan Hailey (played by Brian White). Sean went to college with Evan. Sean's father was the coach. Now, Evan is a professional fighter. Evan and Sean do not get along. They come close to fighting.

Sean fights again, this time in a store in the Bronx. The guy is much bigger. He tries to strangle Sean. Harvey's gang members jump in. The female owner of the store, brandishes a weapon, which clears the place. Everybody rushes out. Nobody gets any money for the fight. Sean fights for the third time at a fancy penthouse. This time Sean is the winner. Sean falls for Zulay. Sean is jealous of Harvey when Harvey pays too much attention to Zulay. Harvey tells Sean to relax, as the woman is only placing bets for Harvey, nothing more.

Evan wants to fight Sean. Martinez wants to bet against Sean. Harvey insists Sean lose the fight on purpose because Martinez will kill them if he does not. Zulay places all the bet money for Harvey, which is around $500,000. She is supposed to place the money against Sean, but instead she places the bet money on Sean to win. During the fight, Evan seems to have the upper hand. Sean is very near defeat. Everyone expects Sean to lose. Nevertheless, Sean fights back and beats Evan. Harvey is surprised to learn from Sean that Zulay bet on Sean to win. They win about a million dollars. With that big score in hand, they all leave New York.
Best part of story, including ending: The underground fight scene is interesting because it is so brutal and the stakes are so high.

Best scene in story: I like the scene when Sean tells Harvey that Zulay reversed the bet and they won a million dollars because Harvey does not expect this.

Opinion about the main character: Sean is a tough guy and not easily manipulated, but he is also a nice guy as well. I like it, how he finds away to escape with Zulay and that they bring Zulay's grandmother and daughter along with them.
