This is a book written by Candace Bushnell, author of the prequel titled "The Carrie Diaries" and of the Sex and the City series. The story follows Carrie Bradshaw and her friends' relationships in Manhattan. Carrie Bradshaw is a Manhattan columnist who has a ferocious love for expensive shoes and who writes a weekly sexual affairs column titled "Sex in the City" for the fictitious newspaper the "New York Star". Interviewing sexually liberated individuals with respect to numerous topics related to upcoming columns, Carrie chronicles the sexual exploits of New Yorkers while exploring the dating scene. Throughout the book, Carrie falls in lust and in love - her two greatest love being Aidan, a sensitive romantic guy; and a man known as Mr. Big, a handsome flirtatious, yet emotionally reticent businessman.

Carrie meets Mr. Big randomly on the streets of New York City after dropping her purse on the sidewalk. She then keeps running into him and he eventually ask her out on an official date. They start dating and even find romance in their relationship until Carrie wants him to officially commit to her, which he doesn't do. Even though he tells her he loves her, he moves away to Paris and returns with a new girlfriend, Natasha; his soon-to-be wife. Carrie then meets Aidan, a furniture designer, who falls in love with her and who is willing to commit to her - and Carrie loves him right back. She starts believing he might be her Mr. Right yet, after a while, Carrie cheats on Aidan with Mr. Big - the latter who wants to ask Natasha for a divorce as he has been unhappy in this marriage. After numerous sexual encounters with Mr. Big, Carrie decides to tell Aidan the truth about her affair so as to be honest, which puts an end to Aidan and Carrie's relationship as Aidan feels betrayed and can no longer trust her. Mr. Big however remains married to his wife and Carrie decides she cannot do this anymore and so put an end to their affair. Aidan comes back into Carrie's life a while later and they start dating once more. He falls back in love with her and proposes. She says yes but eventually breaks up the engagement to go back to Mr. Big. Aidan moves away and Mr. Big moves to California and Carrie then starts dating other men such as Jack Berger who eventually breaks up with her as he cannot commit. One day, on a book tour to Francisco, Carrie re-ignite her passion with Mr. Big - for one night only.
In addition to the above, this book is a collection of short stories depicted by Carrie, each of those stories describing her friends' relationship problems, lifestyles and sexual encounters. Surrounded by her three best friends Samantha, Charlotte and Miranda, Carrie continuously attempts to understand relationships a little better by learning from her, and her friends' mistakes, - which she never quite does. Carrie is also in a never ending quest for romance and has a burning desire to find this Mr. Right so coveted - which she never quite find.

Carries' stories, and her friends', are incredibly realistic and most women can relate - or at the very least admit they've encountered similar situations at some point in time.
Best scene in story:
When Aidan proposes to Carrie. Aidan was the good one and truly loved her and this was Carrie's opportunity to find love and happiness - at last.
Opinion about the main character:
She keeps going back to Mr. Big as he remains out of reach, and expects him to change his ways, which he never does.
