Me Before You Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Me Before You

Me Before You is about the tender relationship between a young woman who doesn't know what she wants out of life and the wealthy paraplegic young man she is paid to care for. Louisa Clark takes a job near her home, working as a companion to a rich, handsome, once-active young man who has lost his will to live. Will Traynor has made a deal with his loving (but seemingly cold) mother to live for another six months and then be allowed to die gracefully at a suicide-assisted facility. Mrs. Taynor is hoping that someone like Louisa can change Will's mind within those six months, just by making him laugh and take part in life once again, despite his grave disabilities.

Upon meeting Will, Louisa dislikes him immensely for his arrogance and bitter attitude toward her and everyone else. Eventually, however, Louisa gets Will to get out and become as active as he can. It soon is apparant that Louisa has fallen in love with Will, and that Will is very fond of her. She breaks up with her live-in fiance and wants nothing more than to get Will to decide to live.

The ending of this story is perhaps not the happiest for all involved, but Louisa discovers things about herself that she'd never known before. She is also able to go on to better and greater things in life thanks to her having known Will Traynor.
Best part of story, including ending: This story was intense and went into great detail about people's motives and feelings, making it a wonderful story about love and redemption.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was when Louisa asks Will to come to her family's home for dinner and he is seated near Louisa's fiance. The jealousy that is on the edge of each of these men's minds is both funny and sweet to endure.

Opinion about the main character: Louisa is a likable character in that she goes with her true feelings, no matter what the occasion. She is always herself and doesn't put on any airs, despite working for a powerful, wealthy family.
