A woman's lifelong dream of being a voice teacher on the plains of Montana. Prairie Nocturne, is a novel that takes place during the Great Depression of the 1930s. We are introduced to a mature vocal teacher Susan. She is living on the western plains of the US and is in a rather isolated location.

Susan has a few trials along the way one is when she attempts to teach a black man how to sing, this doesn't go over well with the white male population of the area and the Ku Klux Klan makes a visit. Susana also has a little romance with a ex-boyfriend Wes, from her past. While teaching a man how to sing Wes charms Susan once again in hopes that they will revive their old love for one another.
The novel highlights a free spirited mature woman of the 1930s and shows how she herself can establish a vocal school in the middle of nowhere.
Best part of story, including ending: The story is like a jigsaw puzzle that the reader himself must put together. This makes for fascinating reading.

Best scene in story: When Susan and her former boyfriend get back together.

Opinion about the main character: She is a woman thirty years ahead of her time. This makes for a delightful read. Would be similar if a woman from the Woodstock generation would go back in time to the 1930s and teach at a remote vocal school.
