Soon, however, Claire finds out that Vivian is indeed legendary-for all the wrong reasons. Verbally and emotionally abusive to everyone on her staff, Vivian has no qualms in dismissing potential bestsellers because of her personal tastes, choosing the trashiest of projects that are guaranteed to make a quick dollar, and above all, scaring off longtime co-workers and temp workers alike due to her abrasive and domineering personality.

Outside of her publishing career, Claire unexpectedly connects with an old crush, Randall Cox. Their relationship is whirlwind and feels like a romance novel to Claire- surprise gifts of designer items, roses delivered to her office, and a magical weekend in Paris are just some of the ways Randall sweeps her off her feet. All of Claire's friends and family are convinced she's found the man of her dreams. Claire agrees that Randall's wonderful- so why can't she get one of her clients, budding author and friend Luke Mayville, off her mind?

Two events lead Claire to epiphanies in her life, both personal and professional. At the launch party for Luke's book, which has become a bestseller, Claire ultimately realizes her limits in regard to Vivian's abuse, resulting in her resignation on the spot. And on the day of her wedding to Randall, a visit from Vivian and a sudden realization causes Claire to figure out that, while life may seem perfect on the outside, it's the little things that matter.

In the end, Claire finds herself happier than ever before, with a new love, surrounded by family and friends, and a bright future with plenty of job offers from former employees of Vivian's.
Best part of story, including ending: I liked "Because She Can" because of how much it showed what the publishing world was like, albeit with a boss who could be easily confused for Godzilla. Also, it was good to see all of Claire's reactions, both verbally, mentally, and emotionally, as we got to see her initially fighting with herself over the 'dream job' and 'dream boyfriend.'

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was the launch party of Luke's book, when the story comes to a climax. Here Claire ultimately realizes what's truly important in her life, and she chooses that over the abuse/prestige of working for Vivian Grant.

Opinion about the main character: Claire as a heroine was great because she was so believable. She seemed like the girl next door, and her initial reactions to the crazy world of Vivian Grant were both hilarious and understandable. I also enjoyed seeing her torn between Randall and Luke- she was swept off her feet by her boyfriend, but there was a realistic sense of contemplation and longing in regard to Luke and his down-to-earth ways.
