The Rise of Nine Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Rise of Nine

John Smith, who is in fact an alien, must find the other aliens from his planet hiding on Earth in order to defeat the Mogadorians, the aliens chasing them. John Smith could have been considered as an ordinary boy - except he's not. He's an alien from another planet, which was destroyed by a different kind of aliens, the Mogadorians. John (Four), along with nine other children and ten guardians, was sent to Earth in order to be hidden from the Mogadorians until he grows up. When he and the others will be fully matured, they can return to their planet, defeat the Mogadorians and rebuild their home planet.

In the previous book in the series, The Power of Six, John, who is number Four, Six, and Sam, his human friend from his last home, Paradise, Ohio, tried to run away from the police chasing them. Eventually they split - Sam and Four broke into the Mogadorians' hiding place on Earth and Six left to find another Loric (their race's name) who has been hiding on Earth. Six found both Seven and Ten, along with Ten's guardian. Four and Sam found Nine locked up, and managed to escape... only without Sam, who was left behind.
Despite the fact Four wants to rescue Sam, Nine turns towards New York. In Nine's last apartment there they find a lot of information left behind by his guardian. Four and Nine also find out where all the other Loric teenagers are.

After the big battle in Spain, Six, Seven, Ten and her guardian turn to India, after hearing about a god hiding there. They find out it is, as they suspected, another Loric - number Eight. Number Eight takes them to a cave enabling him to teleport people using his magical abilities, but a battle starts and the Loric teenagers, excluding Ten's guardian, end up transporting in a haste. Six is transported to a desert in New Mexico, while the others are transported to Somalia.

Following a dream they both head, Nine and Four turn to New Mexico. Number Ten also manages to use telepathy and talk to Six, and the other group, consisting of Seven, Eight and Ten, turns towards New Mexico as well.

In the meanwhile, Six gets caught by the American military. It turns out the place she is taken to is, in fact, a Mogadorian base. She battles their leader, Setrakus Ra, but he traps her in stone. The others then show up and rescue her and Sarah, who was also imprisoned there, but before they can kill Ra he and the rest of the Mogadorians disappear. The group escapes, with Eight suffering from bad injuries.
Best part of story, including ending: I liked this story because it was fun to read it, the writing is good and the story is interesting. It is a good book for young adults, but can be read in any age above, too, and it is easy to enjoy it.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was the battle scene with all the numbers, in the Mogadorians' base. All the numbers, excluding Five, fought with Ra, each using his own magical abilities. The battle is described very lively, each of their moves was noted and in my imagination, it appeared to be beautiful.

Opinion about the main character: I like that Four is taking his time thinking about things. He doesn't just jump into something, but makes up a detailed plan.
