A domesticated macaw family goes to the Amazon to discover their roots. Blu and Jewel now have kids and are living in a bird sanctuary in Rio. Their human owners are out in the Amazon on expedition and suspect that there are more of the blue macaws in the wild, their mission is to find them. Jewel who thinks that her family is too domesticated wants to go to the Amazon to teach the kids to be more wild. The family goes on the trip, along with their bird friends Nico, Rafael, and Pedro. Meanwhile, a corporate logger finds the news about the new bird discovery in the Amazon disturbing since it would mean an end to his illegal logging business. He assigns men to look for the bird scientists and to take care of them. On the way to the jungle, Nigel, Blu's archenemy spots him and along with his new friends, a poison frog, and an anteater, follow Blu into the forest to exact his revenge. When Blu and Jewel arrive in the Amazon, Jewel is reunited with her long-lost father Eduardo, now the chief of the blue macaw tribe. They are hiding from any humans since they think they are the enemy, despite Blu's argument that some are nice, like his owners. Jewel and the kids settle into their new jungle life, however Blu is totally out of his element. He also fails to win the approval of his dad-in-law. Even more so when Blu causes trouble with the neighboring red macaws, costing them their Brazil nut supply. Somewhere in the jungle, the bird scientists are caught by the men and are tied to a tree. Blu rescues them and he rallies all the birds to fight for their forest. They have a battle with the illegal loggers, sabotaging their tree cutters, bulldozers, and such. When Blu gets lost in the shuffle, Nigel catches up to him, the poison frog shoots a dart but misses and hits Nigel. He falls, and "dies." But apparently the poison frog isn't poisonous after all, so Nigel lives much to the frog's delight since she's in love with him. She drags him into the forest, making him her captive. Blu wins the approval of Eduardo, and the environmentalists make their habitat a protected zone, and they decide to stay there for good.

I like the liveliness and color of the Brazilian culture that's thoroughly displayed throughout the film.

I like when Nico, Rafael, and Pedro hold auditions for a talent contest, and various animals try out ala American Idol.
Opinion about the main character:
Blu's supposed disadvantage of being a city boy becomes his asset in the forest since his city wits helped the birds defeat the humans.
