Burn Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Burn

Josie is a 28 year old artist who is in an existing relationship with a selfish partner when she meets Ash McIntyre and he makes her rethink everything that she thought she knew about intimacy, sex and her own preferences. Josie thinks she is in the right relationship with Michael, even though she had very little knowledge of a Dominant/Submissive relationship prior to what she is currently in. One day, at the park, Ash McIntyre sees her for the first time and is fascinated by her. She wears a collar that proclaims her status as a submissive, but the necklace is not consistent with her appearance or her preferences. Therefore, he quickly assumes that her partner is not a true Dominant and she is not as happy as she could be, with himself as her new Dominant.

He does research into her and her life, and buys all of her artwork currently on display at a local gallery. Simultaneously, he also finds out that she has been forced to sell the treasured jewelry left to her by he deceased mother in order to pay her rent. He buys it back for her, in exchange for a dinner date. At that meal, he learns that she ended her relationship and he uses the opportunity to suggest they move in together, even though they barely know each other. It is also interesting to note that although Ash is generally a law-abiding citizen now, he has not always been so and when necessary is aware of the less legal ways to handle serious problems.

She takes a bit of time to decide, especially as she learns about the more erotic plans he has for the two of them. During that time, Michael attacks her and she is too ashamed to contact Ash while showing the physical signs of trauma inflicted by her former Dominant. He discovers it anyway and waits at her apartment, where she is convinced to move it with him and he informs her that he will be taking of her in the future.

Once together, intimacy soon follows and it is amazing. There is very little they do not do and she is introduced to two of his friends and his sister. One of his friends is involved with a woman that shared sexually with Ash at one time, but the awkwardness soon vanishes. All of the men are Dominant and the women are all collared, except for his sister who begins a new relationship throughout the book. Ash takes step to beat Michael, as vengeance for the abuse he gave Josie.

Unfortunately, when Josie finds out that Ash bought all of her art, she feels betrayed and talentless. She leaves him and while living on her own, an old enemy of the three men nearly kill her. Ash finds her just in time and they reconcile their problems. Although there is no proof of who killed the assailant, he is soon found dead. Ash and Josie reconcile their problems, engage in more amazing sex, get engaged and plan to have many children.
Best part of story, including ending: Loved the intimacy and a clear understanding of the different facets, types and expectations involved with this type of relationship. I also liked that it was part of a trilogy and everyone involved had friends of their own.

Best scene in story: I actually liked how they met. He was instantly attracted to her, noticed the collar and came to talk to her. When he did, he noiced that she had been drawing people in the park, and he was one of her subjects. Instant connection!

Opinion about the main character: I wish that Josie knew more about this type of relationship before committing to either Michael or Ash. It just seems odd to accept and enjoy that kind of relationship, with all that it entails, without having a better understanding of both roles and how things work.
