A teacher assaulted by a violent student, encounters the same terrifying threat at a new school. Trevor teaches in a Brooklyn school, and is attacked (stabbed) by a vengeful student. After surviving the incident, he moves to California to a new school only to encounter scary Mexican gang-members who have no respect for authority. History repeats itself and two gang members, the leader Benny and his right-hand guy Cesar continue to harass him and the other teachers, and students. Trevor's patience and bravery are tested, as the boys provoke him, and scare the other teacher Ellen, whose dog they later kill. The school administration is turning a blind eye to the teacher's complaints, fearing legal action. One day, Benny doesn't show up, and is later found dead in the river. It is assumed that his death was just another consequence of his gang relations. Cesar is shot with a needle filled with some tranquilizer, he wakes up without a finger and swears it's Trevor who did it. Apparently, Trevor has taken the law in his hands, frustrated with the messed-up system and was the one who targeted the boys. Cesar and some gang members go to Trevor's house to kill him, and starts a game of Russian Roulette. Trevor shoots himself, Cesar, starts another round and kills himself too.

Best part of story, including ending:
It exposes the danger of inner city schools and the brave teachers who work there everyday.

The ending was nerve-wracking, when Trevor is cornered by the gang in his house and comes face to face with death.
Opinion about the main character:
Trevor has been broken by the system. He is someone you will really feel sorry for since he has a passion for teaching but is unappreciated and even threatened.
