Night Star - Immortals 5 Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Night Star - Immortals 5

Night Star is the fifth novel in the Immortal series featuring Ever Bloom, a high school teen thrust into the world of immortality, trying desperately to cure her centuries long love interest of his affliction so they can finally be together. Night Star begins with Ever and Damen training for the inevitable fight Ever will have with Haven. In the last novel, Dark Flame, Ever began to understand her arch-nemesis Roman's motivations. Unfortunately, as she was trying to mend their differences and he was going to give her the antidote for Damen, Jude killed Roman which incidentally destroyed the antidote. Ever's former best friend Haven, who has recently become immortal as well, had fallen in love with Roman; She's angrier and has vowed to seek revenge on Ever and Jude.

Haven has become relentless in her journey to become popular, not caring one bit who she hurts to get there, including Ever who she is intent on killing. She befriends a girl named Honour who happens to be one of the popular girls and uses her immortal powers to knock little miss queen bee Stacia out of the inner circle. It seems the years of being a loser were too much for Haven and dishonestly becoming popular is good enough for her, even if everyone is looking at her with rose colored glasses.

While in Summerland, Ever discovers Damen has been altering the imagery of her past lives and assumes the worst about him without giving him a chance to explain. It's revealed that Ever and her family along were slaves in a past life. Damen bought Ever (knowing she was his true love) and left the others behind. Her family was tragically killed in a fire by the immortal rogue, Roman. What she doesn't let Damen explain is that he intended to go back and get her family as well. Life proves more difficult when Damen lends a shoulder to the now loser Stacia which is all too horrific for Ever since Stacia has tormented her for four books prior. Ever wonders if she can trust Damen. Meanwhile, Jude is determined to protect her and win her over, even though he never gets her in previous lives. Ever has always chosen Damen in the end.

Ever figures out that even though the Elixir has been destroyed when the contents were spilled on Roman's shirt, she believes she can use it. She sets out to get the shirt so she and Damen can break down the antidote properties to recreate it.

One day, Haven comes to Ever's house when her aunt Sabine is home and demands the elixir. In this series, the immortals have to drink a red elixir that is always referred to as a red sports drink. Ever's aunt Sabine was always clueless and thought Ever just really loved this drink. Haven's behavior is exactly like a drug addict seeking a fix. Of course, Ever gives her the elixir.

Ever spends time with Jude on and off as she questions if she should be with him or not and decides to kiss him to make sure. Ever and Jude are hanging out at Mystics and Moonbeams when Haven shows up. Somehow, Haven discovers where Ever's weak chakra lies and ends up punching her, almost killing her. As Ever is dying, she fights her weak chakra and ends up getting a vision when she goes to Shadowland. Ever sees all of her past lives with Damen and comes to the conclusion that she really is meant to be with Damen. Suddenly Ever finds herself back on Earth.

Haven gets to Jude and ties him up in a basement. Ever and Damen arrive and Haven threatens to kill Jude and throw the shirt with the spilled elixir into the fire. Jude insists that Ever let Haven kill him and while she's contemplating, Haven throws the shirt in the fire before Ever can respond. One of Ever's friends named Miles arrives and Haven tries to kill him too, but before she can, Ever pushes her into the fire, sending her to Shadowland.

The novel ends with Ever and Damen back in Summerland beginning to explore a dark place inside it with swamps and a creepy old woman that seems obsessed with Ever. The final novel titled Everlasting will follow.
Best part of story, including ending: I really hated Haven's rise to popularity and self-centered nature. I'm glad she's gone.

Best scene in story: The ending when Ever and Damen are in the dark part of Summerland. I'm intrigued to know what that's about.

Opinion about the main character: As always, Ever makes rash decisions that she really should know are stupid. I like that she doesn't give up on people easily.
