While SpongeBob and Patrick are off on their adventure, Plankton takes over Bikini Bottom, creating a burger empire out of a stolen burger recipe from Krab. His business is a success, he hands out helmet giveaways with every meal. His ego gets out of control, and he controls the citizen's minds with the helmets, making them his slaves and him the self-appointed leader.

Meanwhile, SpongeBob and Patrick encounter obstacles, one being threatened by tough guys at a tavern. Their burger car also gets destroyed, and they are pursued by an assassin sent by Plankton. When they reach a deep trench filled with dangerous things, they decide to cut their losses and go home. But Neptune's daughter appears and convinces them otherwise. She shows them what Bikini Bottom has become, thus they are the town's only hope.

After successfully navigating the trench, Dennis cuts their path, but is stepped on by a big foot of a scuba diver's. They are taken by the man to Shell City, which is a boutique of dried up sea shells and creatures. SpongeBob and Patrick are out of water and are about to expire. But they are able to turn on the sprinklers, and make their escape with the crown. They run into David Hasselhoff (in Baywatch attire) on the beach, and he helps them get home.

Back at Bikini Bottom, the two race to save Krab who is about to meet Neptune's fate. SpongeBob rocks out to a song that miraculously saves Krab since the song destroys all the mind-controlling helmets.

Bikini Bottom is saved, and SpongeBob is promoted manager.
Best part of story, including ending: It has SpongeBob's trademark snarky remarks and jokes, but he still delivers his character with some kind of stupid innocence which is hilarious.

Best scene in story: When SpongeBob shows Patrick the Burger mobile, with pickle wheels and deep fryer engine and Patrick is awestruck.

Opinion about the main character: SpongeBob is a meager hero who gets by with his go-getter demeanor. He tries his best with the smallest means.
