Gerald has been her man for three years and has yet to pop the big question. Their sex life hasn't had any sparks in months. At thirty-eight, Lenora wants to get married and start a family before her “clock” runs out.

Gerald is spending more time trying to keep his public relations firm afloat in a bad economy and Lenora can't help but wonder if he is cheating on her again. It only happened once, and while it was two years ago, she has her doubts that he is always busy with a work client as he says.

Lenora's friends Alise and Monica don't care too much for Gerald and urge their friend to be careful with her heart. They haven't forgiven him for cheating on Lenora. Lenora loves Gerald, but her self-esteem is so low, that she starts listening to murmurs of her friends and begins questioning herself and doubting Gerald.

Lenora is a talented photographer and has vested almost a decade at a popular magazine. She enjoys seeing her byline and her work featured in cover stories. Poor at money management, she hasn't saved a lot and wants more out of life. She plays the lottery frequently in hopes of cashing in on a big game. Her lottery habit is the topic of many arguments between Lenora and Gerald.

Lenora can't seem to get to work on time, her car isn't helping the situation and her frequent lateness is becoming an issue for her boss. Lenora's gets a big assignment to shoot a local landscaper. Ray is hot, younger, and has charm and an electricity that Lenora hasn't felt in years. She messes up by showing up late and Dawna almost fires her, but gives her another chance. Instead of doing her job and leaving well enough alone, Lenora and Ray develop a quick lust filled relationship that Lenora hides from her boyfriend.

She keeps playing hoping her luck turns over, and it does. She is the sole winner in a Baltimore Lottery Mega drawing. With five-million to spend, she goes for big ticket item purchase. She buys the BMW of her dreams, and a 1.5 million dollar home. She quits her job and decides to open a photography studio of her very own, without doing much research.

They say, money changes people. Lenora's friends agree she's snappy and beginning to take on a diva attitude. She sneaks around with Ray enjoying the impromptu sex and lying to Gerald.

Things can't go on like this for long, and they don't. Gerald catches Lenora and Ray having sex in her new studio and the engagement is off. Ray is also seeing Dawna, Lenora's former boss and he isn't happy about learning of Lenora's engagement through Dawna.

Lenora loses her mini-mansion, her new BMW, and both men in a matter of months. Her girlfriends Alise have tired of her putting on airs and their friendship dwindles to nothing. Finally deciding to take time for self-inventory she decides to take the few thousand left from her winnings and rel-locate to a small southern state and start anew.

Lenora has learned the hard way that money doesn't guarantee happiness or love.
Best part of story, including ending: I hate that Lenora was so shallow, she didn't know herself and didn't take time to see how she how her selfishness was destroying relationships.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was when Lenora won the lottery.

Opinion about the main character: I did not like Lenora's attitude. She was shallow and threw too many teen-age temper tantrums.
