Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Rebound (2005)

A NCBA basketball coach gets put on probation for his bad behavior and must go back to his roots and coach junior school high basketball in order to redeem himself. Martin Lawrence plays the lead character of Coach Roy. He finds himself kicked out of the NCBA because of his temper. He has the rest of the season to prove himself, but he is not allowed to coach a team from the NCBA. The kids on the worst basketball team ever in junior high school send a fax to offer Coach Roy a job. Coach Roy cannot find any other job. He accepts an offer to work with the junior high school, because he went to school there and because it is good for publicity.

Jeanie (played by Wendy Raquel Robinson) who works at the junior high school as a teacher, meets Coach Roy when he arrives, but she does not like him. For the first game of the junior high school basketball team, after Roy becomes coach, they play an opposing team made of really great players. Coach Roy's team loses 109 to zero. The national sports news makes Coach Roy look like an idiot on television. His agent tells him if he does not win a game with the junior high school team, he will never be able to coach NCBA again. Coach Roy loses his car when he loses his endorsement deal. Coach Roy begins to take the challenge seriously. He must make the junior high school basketball team better or his career as a basketball coach will be over.

Coach Roy sees a big young girl named Big Mac (played by Tara Correa) in the school. He recruits her to be on the team. He sees a extremely tall boy named Wes (played by Steven Christopher Parker), who is 6'2” he wants on the team. He invites the boy to be on the team. Coach Roy invites his preacher friend (also played by Martin Lawrence) to pray with them before a game. They score for the first time ever. Coach Roy puts the tall kid, Wes, in the game. He calls him the “Sledge Hammer.” The team makes points, for the first time ever, but they still lose. Coach Roy brings the junior high school girls to watch the practice by tempting them with pizza in order to motivate his team.

The team improves under Coach Roy's serious coaching. He teaches them how to be team players. He gets the kids to work together. Roy gets the team to become winners. Roy and Jeanie start to get together. The team wins their first game. It makes the national press. The team goes on to the state championship.   Roy dates Jeanie.

Roy's agent Tim Fink (played by Breckin Meyer) schedules the hearing for Coach Roy's reinstatement with the NCBA right before the championship game of the junior high school team. The official from the NCBA agree to reinstate him. He declines. He wants to stay coaching the junior high school kids. He leaves the meeting with the NCBA officials to get to the finals of the junior high school game in time. The kids are already playing as Roy rushes across town. Coach Roy arrives just in time to fire up the team, so they are motivated to win. There is a foul at the last moment when the game clock has run out. They are one point behind. The foul is two shots. The kids who is the worst player takes the foul shots. He makes both of them. They win by one point.
Best part of story, including ending: This is a fun movie with predictable happy ending when the underdog basketball teams wins at the end.

Best scene in story: I like the scene with Coach Roy turns down the reinstatement to the NCBA in order so he may continue to coach the junior high school team because it shows he has his priorities in order.

Opinion about the main character: Coach Roy changes from being an egotistical self-centered arrogant jerk into a good guy at the end, which is nice to see.
