While investigating the big squids, Wallace witnesses one of the big squids get killed by a group of animals. The submarine that Wallace and his partners are in gets damaged and becomes flooded. The pilot of the submarine dies but Wallace saves his friend Hank and himself.

When Wallace returns to his regular life as a professor at a university. However, finds out that he is being blamed by the authorities for the death of a submarine pilot and the damage to the submarine. He loses his job as a professor because of the incident.

Everything begins crumbling for Wallace. He begins spending his depressed nights at a bar. Everything changes when Wallace gets word that his father is being charged with murder and is going to court to fight the case. Even though Wallace's father abandoned him, Wallace agrees to go and try his best to help at the trial.

When Wallace gets to his hometown, he spends time with all the people he used to know. He begins battling feelings between helping his father and being angry that his father left him when he was a child. Wallace decides to stick around for his father's trial.

At the trial, Wallace's father expresses that he did not commit the murder but rather the killing was done by the Loch Ness Monster. The court believes Wallace's fathers story and the government begins searching for the Loch Ness Monster. Wallace's father is let go, and Wallace connects with his father and forgives him for abandoning him.
Best part of story, including ending: What I liked most about this story was that Wallace's dad was innocent. It was exciting that the killing was done by the Loch Ness Monster because this was a big twist.

Best scene in story: My favorite part was when Wallace gets depressed and begins going to bars. This felt very real because this happens to a lot of people in real life.

Opinion about the main character: What I liked most about Wallace was that he decided to help his father even though he abandoned him. Wallace got over the anger towards his father and eventually forgave him.
