This is a romantoc suspense story about an undercover officer accused of mass killing and finding the leader of drug operation. Honor Gillette's four year old daughter Emily finds an injured man in their backyard. When Honor turns the man in she finds Lee Coburn accused of mass murder in Royale Trucking Company where Coburn worked. He was last in the company building and he is the only one missing, everyone else present were dead.

Seven people including Sam Marset, owner of the Royale Trucking Company, who was the pillar of Tambour's Society were also killed.
Sargent Fred Hawkins and his Twin Brother Doral Hawkins, a city official were among the men looking for Coburn.
Coburn known Honor's dead husband and cop Eddie Gillette. He tells Honor that Eddie didn't die in an accident and could have been killed, he had something valuable. Coburn searches throughout the house but couldn't find anything, Honor tells him that she doesn't know anything about what Eddie had.
Diego works for the Bookkeeper and takes care of anything The Bookkeeper wants.
Tom VanAllen, an FBI agent was assigned to work with the local police on the Royale Trucking Company mass murder. His wife Janice and he had a thirteen year old son who was brain damaged and looking after him had made their married life strained.
The next day after Coburn has left, Fred Hawkins, who was also Eddie's friend came to see Honor. Honor told him that Coburn had been there and he was telling that something got Eddie killed. Coburn comes through the door and killed Fred.
He tells honor that he saw Fred and Doral kill Sam Marset and his men. He also tells her that he is a federal agent and he has been undercover to find the Bookkeeper.
Fred and Doral had been working for the Bookkeeper. Sam Marset was also working with the Bookkeeper for drug and human trafficking hiding it behind his trucking business. When Sam wanted more money from the Bookkeeper, the Bookkeeper asked the Hawkin twins to kill Sam.
Coburn with Honor and Emily try to find what Eddie had been hiding. They go to Stan, Eddie's father's house to find some clue.
Diego falls in love with one of the girls in the prostitution ring operated by the Bookkeeper. He takes her to her place. The Bookkeeper orders Diego to kill the girl. Somehow the Bookkeeper finds out that Diego has the girl and gets her killed. Diego vows to avenge his lover's death.
Tom VanAllen wants his son Lanny to put in a facility but his wife refuses. Tom then finds out that his wife been having an affair with someone online.
Coburn, Honor and Emily hide in Honor's father's shrimp boat. Emily tries to play a game on her mother's phone. Doral comes to know their location since they have been tracking her phone.
Honor and Coburn take Emily to Honor's friend Tori and tell her to be hidden and take of her.
When Coburn meets Tom VanAllen, the Bookkeeper had ordered Doral to kill Cobourn in a blast but Tom VanAllen dies instead.
When Honor finds out that Coburn could get killed she tries to go to the place of meeting but she finds Coburn alive. They had broken into a house, they were both concerned about each other's safety and they make love. Coburn sees a tattoo on Honor's back which Eddie had persuaded her to get. Coburn knows that whatever Eddie had he had designed it in Honor's tattoo.
Doral finds out about Tori and Emily's location. He attacks Tori, leave her dead and take Emily with him. The Bookkeeper wanted Coburn and Honor and unless Doral delivered them he would be dead. Doral decides to kill the Bookkeeper since no one knew who the Bookkeeper was he could take over the whole operation.
Coburn and Honor went to Stan's house and asked him what the Hawks8 tattoo could mean. Then Coburn finds a USB key in Eddie's Soccer Ball. The USB key had names of people associated with the Bookkeeper.
Doral calls Honor and tell Coburn to meet him so he could kill him or he would kill Emily. Doral also calls The Bookkeeper and tell him his plan but the Bookkeeper says that he will kill Coburn himself.
At the time exchange Coburn kills Doral and saves Emily. A woman suddenly comes there and shoots Coburn. The woman turns out to be Tom Van Allen's widow and also the Bookkeeper. Coburn attacks her with Stan's knife and Honor subdues Janice with a gun. In the end when Janice is in the hospital Diego kills her.

I like the story because it is hard to guess who could be The Bookkeeper.

The climax scene where the identity of the Bookkeeper is revealed.
Opinion about the main character:
I like Coburn because he is dedicated to his work and is compassionate towards Honor and Emily.
