The Janson Option Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Janson Option

Former Special Ops soldier Paul Jansen tries to rescue a woman kidnapped by Somali pirates. When Paul Jansen decided to leave Special Forces and start his own security firm, his one rule was to only work for the good guys. That's a complicated challenge when he's hired to rescue the wife of a high-ranking oil company executive.

American Synergy Corporation is involved in a lot of shady deals and in other circumstances, Jansen and partner Jessica Kincaid would be trying to bring down the company. But they've decided to focus on the rescue of hostages captured by Somali pirates.

Traveling to Somali is difficult and nearly everyone they meet there has a hidden agenda. Kingsman Helms hired Jansen to save his wife, but he's also there to secure oil rights. There are terrorists, attacks from rival Somali pirates and even a mysterious terrorist known as "The Italian."

By the time Jansen and crew attempt their rescue, they find themselves in the middle of a shootout between the pirates, the Somali army and the terrorist who hopes to Somalia's next vice president.

The hostage is saved and nearly everyone except Jansen dies in the battle. Jansen is also able to track down The Italian and turn him over to the Somali army.
Best part of story, including ending: The story has some nice twists and turns, from the identity of the person who planned the kidnapping to the location and real name of The Italian. I loved the many unexpected twists and turns.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene is the one in which Jansen tracks down an American Somali he had brought with him for expertise on the country. He disappears and when Jansen tracks him down two days later, he's already running a huge business out of the back of a stolen car.

Opinion about the main character: As much as I enjoy the book, Paul Jansen is a pretty boring lead character. He isn't especially witty or clever and he reads like a cookie cutter Guy stuck in an otherwise interesting book.
