The story begins when Lisbeth Salander is defending herself from her father Zalachenko who shot her in the head, repeatedly. She manages to survive and take an axe to his head. She escapes and is taken to hospital by her confidant Blomkvist. Dr, Jonasson, the attending physician, operating on her has never seen such a delicate situation and manages to save her in the end, however, she is in the hospital for much of the story. On the other side of the story, Zalachenko is also recovering at a top notch health institution and realizes that his recovery is going to take longer than he had foreseen.

Even when he is in the intensive care unit he is building plans with a few of his connection to build his defense and kill Lisbeth. The unlikely hero in the story, the protagonist Blomkvist, is also building an investigation that will see into the secret life and corruption of Zalachenko and his employers, the Section. This is a special division of the police that is responsible for much of the hardship that Lisbeth had with the law. On the other hand, the Section is not planning to come to his aid this time. Before Zalachenko is able to respond, the former director of the Section, Gulberg kills him and turns the gun on himself. Blomkvist, Figuerola and the honest members of the police do some undercover work that sees the downfall of the Section.
Best part of story, including ending:
I like this story because it shows that elements of the government can actually be honest and rectify their bad aspects. This is is not the tone with many stories today that have similar themes
Best scene in story:
I like the scene at chapter 28 where they are before the judge Iverson and Slander's friend Giannini demands that the court find her innocent and also compensate her for her troubles. It showed a lot of courage to speak against such an official.
Opinion about the main character:
I like that Blomkvist was able to amass support for sake of Lisbeth who he loved and get justice for her sake as she had helped him before. He was returning the favor.
