Ellie has gotten used to the situation of being the leader of the group of guerrilla teenagers against the unknown invaders of her country and she must make decisions that are in their best interests against possible traps while navigating a growing relationship with one of the members. Ellie is a bit depressed after everything that has happened including the invasion and the wounds incurred as well as the separation from Corrie and Kevin, but she has to sort through the mess and emerge as the capable leader that she is. Homer who was a hoon in his previous life helps them to get to hospital and they get to know the fates of their friends. While they are on this high, Ellie becomes bold and coordinates an attack with the group on a convoy on a remote road.

The attack is unsuccessful and Ellie convinces them to find another way around to get help or something. When they get past the valley, they find another more organized guerilla unit called the Harvey's heroes. The leader of the group who call himself major Harvey seems to be taking advantage of a situation to assert his superiority.
The group does not manage to mix with the Harvey's Heroes well and during an attack, the group runs with their lives barely in tact. They find that Chris is not there yet they left him behind and this worries them. It rains heavily for the next few weeks at the camp and they are forced out. They go to Kevin's shed but a work party arrives and they decide to move on to Robyn's music teacher's house in Wirrawee.
Ellie stays for a while before she also leaves to join them. At the house, most of the group has their clothes out to dry and Ellie is wearing blankets to bed. When Lee also walks in wearing blankets, the relationship goes to the next step. Ellie and Fi sneak around the town the next day and to see what the enemy is up to and find a center of operations at Turner Street. To their shock Major Harvey seems to be in league with the enemy and is staying at one of the houses. They decide to attack the houses but this fails. Ellie comes up with a second plan which is more innovative and succeeds.
Best part of story, including ending:
I like this story because it shows a group of teenagers that had basically been taken by surprise by an enemy that invaded their country and were now getting into gear and not giving up even in the face of the slim odds for survival.
Best scene in story:
I like the scene when Ellie quoted in chapter 4, that the invaders of her country were like a cancer and that her team had to be surgeons that removed cancer from the body. This is quite decisive and profound for a teenager that had seen as much as she had.
Opinion about the main character:
I like that Ellie, is able to pick up the confused teens and make them into a team that is a threat to the enemy. Even though they fail on mission repeatedly, they are able to pick themselves up again and try again.
