A robot is designed to do labor, however he begins questioning his existence and the meaning of life. There is a robot named Andrew. Andrew is part of revolutionary discovery in robots. This discovery lead to the creation of robots that do labor for humans. Andrew is a trusted member of the Martin family.

In his beginning days, Andrew had trouble communicating with the Martin family because he had not learned the way of humans yet. He discovered human characteristics when he began playing with animals. The Martin family takes Andrew off labor duty and allow him to be a normal member of the family. They want him to pursue his creativity and questions about life.
Andrew becomes obsessed with becoming like a human. He replaces some of his robot parts with organs. Despite their disability to fully accept Andrew as human, everyone in the Martin family begins assisting Andrew in his quest to become like a human. He even searches out legal recognition to become a human.
The robot company decides not to make Andrew's type of robot anymore after they hear about his quest to become human. They want robots to lead normal robot lives and not ask questions about their existence. Robots that begin getting into deep thoughts in their mind about their existence are no good to the company that makes robots.
Andrew continues his quest to become like a human. He realizes that humans are not immortal as he is, therefore he must become mortal if he wants to be like a human. He allows his brain to decay and he dies. Andrew finally gets what he wants, to be like a human. All in his act of destroying his ability to be an immortal and becoming a mortal.
Best part of story, including ending:
What I liked about this story was that the robot began questioning his existence. Most other robots just do their labor, but this one broke out of that cycle and began seeking the meaning of life. This was a great part of the story.
Best scene in story:
My favorite part was when the robot kills himself in the end. This was a good part because it was very intense. The robot said he wanted to be like a human and he finally did.
Opinion about the main character:
What I liked most about Andrew was that he enjoyed the feelings of life. He did not like to be like a robot, but rather he liked to have emotions of a human. This is what made Andrew respectable.
