Sophie's and her BFF Jenny hit it off as college roommates tears earlier and remain each others confidants. While Jenny is officially registered as Freddie's God mom she fills the role with unyielding love.

A freak accident on ice coupled with a bad turn turn of a boot heel leaves Sophia dead after she slips on a curb and is killed by a bus.

Losing Sophia knocks everyone who loves her off center. Ollie can't function, and Jenny goes into meltdown status ignoring her fiance Sam. Sam has waited to get Jenny to set a wedding date and is growing increasingly impatient.

When a group of mother's from Freddie's school (friends of Sophie's) decide to start a “Help Ollie” project they include Jenny. Jenny feels misplaced she doesn't have children and these women all seem obsessed with any and everything concerning little people who depend on them for everything. Her loyalty to Sophie wins out and she joins the project.

Sophie is able to hear and see everything even while dead. She vows to help Ollie and Jenny pull it together from the other side. Every kind act is not filled with good intention and the school mom's have some underlying reasons for helping Ollie. They want a chance with the handsome guy who is considered the perfect mate, even if his wife just died.

Jenny works as a copy editor and Sam is a condescending divorce lawyer who doesn't treat her very well. He quickly becomes tired and quite jealous of Jenny spending time with Ollie and Freddie. Her intentions are good, Freddie needs her and in a way Ollie does, too. All three miss Sophie deeply. There is an underlining of anger that Ollie lets show every so often. Jenny was the last one to see Sophie alive, he hadn't wanted her to go out for drinks with Jenny. They had all spent Christmas day together, and he questions if Sophie really need to be out late at night again?

Sophie's friends work out a plan to help Ollie manage his household. Meals are prepared, chores are handed out, and Freddie has a rotating list of friends to hang out with. The women also start to become more crafty in hitting on Ollie who seems oblivious to it all. The poor guy is desperately hurting and missing Sophie's presence. He has a high sex drive and isn't quite sure how to deal with energy.

Sam finally gets caught in his many lies when Jenny discovers a letter Sam had written her where he was trying to get Sophie to consider his attraction and an invitation to “play.” Sophie had never mentioned this before and Jenny feels betrayed about the same time that she realizes that she can't possibly marry Sam. She is in love with someone else. That someone, is Ollie. She feels bad because now she is as guilty as the rest of the mothers, who swear they loved Sophie.

She calls off the wedding and moves back home with her parents. She refuses to take Ollie's calls which throws him for a loop. When the women from the “Help Ollie” project descend on Jenny's parent's house in masse, they tell her that Ollie is miserable and needs her. They agree that Jenny is what he and Freddy need and that she should give it a go. With the women backing her up plans to her Ollie out she visits. Together they decide Sophie would approve of their relationship. Freddie and and Ollie both love her. Seeing that her fellas are in capable hands Sophie is able to complete her transition to the afterlife in peace.
Best part of story, including ending: I loved that Jenny cared enough about Sophie to look after Ollie and Freddie when she died.

Best scene in story: My favorite scene was when Ollie and Sophie agreed that Jenny would want them to raise Freddie together.

Opinion about the main character: I liked Sophie's love of life most.
