Mac stumbles upon Bea,who has inherited a bankrupt estate and who knows nothing of how to manage her new property. In return for looking after "his" children Mac offers to teach Bea and help her run the estate. Though they clash over the way in which to rescue her estate, their mutual attraction help convince them to agree to marry, when Bea's interfering aunt blackmails Mac with her knowledge that he is hiding from the authorities.
Bea and Mac can not agree whether to stay in England or relocate to Virginia and eventually agree unhappily to have a long-distance relationship. But then the children's real father discovers their whereabouts and kidnaps Bea and offers her to Mac in exchange for his children.
