Angels Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Angels

Maggie Walsh Garvan has always been the most well behaved, boring Walsh sister. She is married to her first boyfriend, and the couple live a relativly dull life. However, after several monthes of marital strain, Maggie learns that her husband, Paul (or Garv, as she calls him) has been unfaithfull. Maggie leaves him and briefly returns to the bosom of her eccentric Irish family before flying to Los Angeles to stay with a friend. Once in a new city, Maggie decides that it is time for a new life to begin, so boring Maggie starts rubbling elbows with people in the film industry. But after a while Maggie discovers that what she has been doing was really attempting to escape her problems. She realizes that she must deal once and for all the truth about her past, and the real reason her marriage failed.

Maggie splits with her husband and flees to Los Angeles to her friend Emily. This is very out of character for her and she does things there the old Maggie walsh would never have dreamed of - kissing women, wearing tights on her head, and getting drunk.

After the collapse of her marriage, the notoriously sensible Maggie Walsh, younger sister of Claire (“Watermelon”) and elder sister of Rachel (“Rachel's Holiday”) escapes to LA. In Hollywood, she discovers not only the glamorous world of movie making and beautiful people, but more importantly, much about herself.
