Cinderella Story: My Life in Golf Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Cinderella Story: My Life in Golf

The autobiographical wanderings of Bill Murray's mind interspersed with his passion for golf are the basis for this book. He was born in Wilmette, IL as one of nine children. He was a comedian in Catholic school and loved playing sports. He and older brothers Ed and Brian got hooked on golf because they were able to work at a local country club making spending money as shag boys, grounds keepers or working in the pro shop. Many of their boyhood adventures are retold in the 1980 comedy classic Caddyshack written by Brian Doyle-Murray starring Chevy Chase, Rodney Dangerfield, Ted Knight, and of course Bill. After losing his father he enjoyed performing for his mother and playing funny tricks on her.

He recalls his trials and triumphs playing in the pro/am tournaments at Pebble Beach, The Western Open, and Greater Milwaukee Open among others. Hardly a scratch player, he is often more entertaining for how bad he plays than for his expert shot making. Murray often recalls his love for all sports teams from Chicago (Bulls, Bears, Cubs, and Black Hawks). The shooting of one film in particular with Tim Robbins directing and a handful of big stars was running late interfering with the finals of the NBA playoffs. Murray is very funny, extremely gracious, and down to earth, sometimes as star struck by the likes of Jack Nicklaus and Arnold Palmer as most people are of Hollywood actors and actresses.
