The plot thickens as Grand Admiral Thrawn looks for another source of much needed warships. Luke, Han and Leia try their best to save the Repubic. However, one of their own senators tries to use the events to rise to power. Thanks to Leia, the mysterious Noghri begin to mistrus the Empire. In the end, Thrawn escapes with a whole fleet of large space ships, but the New Republic has gained new allies without their enemy's knowledge.

In the second book of the Grand Admiral Thrawn trilogy both sides, the Empire and the New Republic, are in a race to find the Dark Force, a fleet of old Republic dreadnaughts that were lost in space a long time ago. While Luke & co. are hunting for the dreadnaughts, Thrawn also investigates what's wrong with his pet Nogri, who have secretly decided to join the New Republic.
