Desire's Song Book Review Summary

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Desire's Song

Sarah Raymond is a prim and proper young lady who has been left impoverished by the death of her gentle older husband. He had rescued her from a life of hurt and humiliation at the hands of her neglectful father's unsavory acquaintances and theirs had been a marriage in name only.
Sarah embarks upon a successful career as an opera singer to earn enough to keep her country estate and care for her late husband's two young daughters. She becomes friendly with a young lieutenant, who is infatuated with her. The man's brother is a powerful duke and advisor to the Prince Regent who believes that Sarah is nothing more than a high price courtesan trying to seduce his brother into an unsuitable marriage and gain his wealth.
The Duke of Ormond, not believing that a woman of Sarah's profession is anything but mercenary decides to make Sarah his mistress and show his brother the kind of woman she really is. Sarah begins to trust him and respond to his overtures but he refuses to see the goodness in her and is continually thrawted by her fear of men and physical closeness. His confusion only reinforces the idea that she is a treacherous opportunist and he is determined to unmask her deception while making her his.
