Ms. Codell's book is a sometimes hilarious biography of a young first year teachers experience at an inner city school in Chicago. Ms. Codell enjoys most things about being a fourth grade teacher except she finds her inept and lecherous principal is more often a hindrance than an asset to her cause.

She perseveres by working long hours and using unconventional methods to get through to her kids. The atmosphere of inner city Chicago is tragic. It underscores the difficulties faced by modern-day school faculty and administrators.
