Fire in the Mist Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of Fire in the Mist

After the pox destroys her village, Faia, a young peasant girl with strong magical powers, decides to cremate all the corpses, since she can't possibly give them all a decent burial, as much as she would like to. To do that, she uses her magic -- and such a strong display of magic can not go unnoticed. Faia is invited to study at the university, or, better said, ordered to do that, so she would learn to control her power, instead of causing a minor disaster every time she uses magic.

However, it turns out that Faia's magical outburst didn't just make magic unavailable for everyone during few days, it also released an ancient evil from its prison. Young students of magic -- girls, all of them -- are found dead and terribly mutilated, and it's just the beginning. No one knows what exactly is going on, but many believe it's all Faia's fault. Not everyone hates her, though; young and handsome boy-mage Kirgen, barbarian she-mage Medwind Song and troublesome, magically changed cat Flynt all do their best to help Faia. At the end, predictably, it's up to Faia to fight the ancient evil.
