Flying Lessons Book Summary and Study Guide

Cleo gets flying lessons, learning how to jump down shafts and use her web spinner. But the lessons get cut short when they see a girl get kidnapped by mutants. They go to a bar and try to recover the girl by gambling Cleo and Sarge.

Hal has to gamble against a fat mutant who has all sorts of disgusting body piercings. They play some sort of incomprehensible game involving balls rising and dropping in tubes--it's impossible to tell how it's objectively played or how one wins or loses. After Cleo performs a mini-strip tease to get their attention, the mutant expresses an interest in gambling for Cleo.

Unfortunately, Hal gambles badly and loses Cleo and Sarge to the mutant. And then the mutant tries to drug Hal so he can win her too, but Hal only pretends to be drugged. She ends up winning and wins the freedom of everyone, but the mutant tries to go back on the deal and, surprise! they have to fight the mutant (it seem they could have done this from the start, no?)
