Dan Lambert is a middle-aged Vietnam War Vet who is frustrated by his inability to find a job though he desperately needs one. He is sick from exposure to Agent Orange while in the service, disgusted by his country's treatment of him after his return. So naturally, he allows his anger to get the best of him and he kills a man during a moment of fury. His only recourse is to flee, so he runs south toward the swamps of Louisiana hoping to find some kind of salvation there. Along the way he picks up a colorful young lady who has been dumped by the roadside by her boyfriend and she joins him in the search for redemption. They are pursued the whole way by a cadre of legitimate lawmen as well as a strange pair of bounty hunters who are as eccentic a couple as you are likely to see. One of them even has a little secret which he keeps hidden underneath his shirt that is sure to astound. A very good book, action-packed and at times very amusing.
