Captain Boomer Halhanna,a former dwarven soldier-of-fortune now a crafter of fine armor, is yanked out of his comfortable and well-earned retirement by a magical summons from an old comrade in arms, Moribus, a powerful sorcerer. A great threat thought destroyed in a great war many years previously has reappeared. According to an ancient prophecy, a gathering of great warriors of all the races, with the greatest weapons and magical powers, will be necessary to put a stop to it a second time. The kingdoms and rulers of the land do not believe in the reappearance of this great evil. The Captain is to be a part of this force. On his way to the appointed meeting place he collects others that are identified in the prophecy, and other sub-plots detail the gathering together of other great warriors from other lands heeding the summons. There are frequent clashes with enemies and fantastic creatures and monsters as they travel soutward into a tropical jungle to confront the veritable army amassing there. The sorceror takes part of the party ahead to reconoiter and, too late, they discover that he is not trying to save mankind but is in league with the enemy and seeks to destroy it and them. There are many sub-plots involving time and extra-dimensional travel, arillery. psionics, martial arts, and Russian folklore.
