A Home of Her Own Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of A Home of Her Own

Lucky Caldwell has returned to her home town , after 6 years, to the house she inherited from her step-father, Morris; to try to find her father.   Mike Hill, Morris's grandson and the person she'd always had a crush on as a kid, and his family have always made it clear she was as no good as her mother and made no bones about the fact they thought as Morris's first family they should have gotten the house she's living in again.

The house of course has no heat, electricity or phone service and a storm has arrived with Lucky. Mike is the only close neighbor so she gets help from him as much as she hates to. She spends the night at his house, gives in to her wants and he becomes personally aware that she was as pure as her mother wasn't. They continue their relationship in secret and Mike gets to know Lucky and realizes she is not at all what his family and the whole town for that matter have believed. A woman has never gotten under his skin as Lucky has and his brother realizes he is in love with her before Mike does. With her virginity gone to the man she has always loved and her feelings for him stronger than ever she realizes she cannot cause him any more scandal and leaves town. He searches for her and even hires a private detective to try to find her with no luck. Three weeks later she finds out she is going to have his baby.
