When Shelly Brockman returns to her Southern hometown after an eleven year absence, she can't help but worry about running into her former lover, Alisdare "Dare" Westmoreland. Eleven years ago Shelly and Dare were torn apart by Dare's decision to pursue a career in the FBI. Unbeknownst to Dare, Shelly was pregnant at the time of their breakup, a secret she kept to herself so as not to tie Dare down. Now, Shelly has come back to town to reveal to Dare that her ten year old hellion son, also named Alisdare, is Dare's son. But, before Shelly can break the news gently to Dare, who is now Sheriff Dare Westmoreland, her son lands in major trouble and winds up in Dare's police station. When Shelly reports to the police station to bail out her son, she is forced to deliver the shocking news to Dare that that he is a father. Stunned by Shelly's deception, Dare is determined to make things right between himself and his son. Due to his own tight knit, large family Dare believes strongly in a man raising his son and being a part of his life. Shelly warns Dare that it is too soon to reveal his parentage to Little Dare and Dare agrees to develop a relationship with his son and then inform him that he is his father. As Dare works overtime to create a bond with his son, he is forced to realize that his feelings for Shelly have never died. Although Shelly returned to town to reunite her son with his father, she finds that she still loves Dare after all these years. As Shelly and Dare navigate their way through shared parenting they must summon the courage to seize a second chance at love.
