In “One Fearful Yellow Eye” John D. MacDonald presents his hero, Travis McGee ,
in perhaps his most frightening, suspenseful episodes yet. McGee, that “knight in
tarnished armor,” loves helping his friends out of their troubles, especially bikini-clad
females in trouble! This time longtime friend Glory Doyle has come to McGee for help
again. It seems that someone has successfully “taken” over a half-million dollars from her
husband's account over the last year of his life. This is McGee's speciality--retrieving losts
pieces of valuable property, whether it be money or pride. He suspects blackmail, but can't
seem to figure out why. But, of course, he does, as he discovers that sadism also plays a
role in this ugly scene--and a sick mind is revealed, a person who prefers to maim and one
who enjoys seeing the victim suffer. This is McGee in top form!
