Dr. Joanna Lander is a young female doctor who is seeking to understand the Near-Death Experience. She enlists the aid of a young male doctor, who has found a biochemical means of simulating NDE's and together, they work toward documenting and understanding of an NDE. Because it is difficult to find subjects willing to undergo the experience on a regular basis, it falls more and more upon Joanna to be both observer and observed. With each encounter with an NDE, finds the experience more fearful.
