Christian, who is astounded he has a wife, vows not to consummate the marriage even though he is highly attracted to Adara, because he does not want his freedom impinged upon. After Christian makes this clear to Adara, she angrily accepts his decision and decides to return to her country and find another man to be her King. As she begins to look for an escort back, because her own were all killed, Christian announces he will escort her back and take care of the imposter on his throne who keeps sending assassins out to kill him.
As the two make their way back to their homeland, they find themselves hopelessly drawn to one another, until Christian becomes overcome by lust and consummates their marriage, making their affection grow towards love. Even as they connect with one another, the danger they are in escalates as they near their homeland, and the attacks for their throne grow.
