The surface world dwells in quiet complacency while a sinister new force begins stirring in the bowels of the oceans. A young sailor, the son of a vicious pirate, tries to live as an honest sailor, but finds it almost impossible with the suspicion and hatred of all people upon him. Even worse, the sahaguin, a race of sea-dwelling warriors consumed with hatred for the land-dwellers, are roused to war against the surface by a mysterious sorcerer who has lived for thousands of years, lusting for vengeance upon the goddess who stripped him of his powers.
