Heiress Susan Carrington has never had a good relationship with a man because they treat her differently because of her wealth. She is insecure thinking men are not interested in her, only her money. One day she sees an attractive man in a store buying a scarf. They flirt for a while, then, acting on impulse, she invites him to meet her at a hotel bar the following Wednesday night. She sees this as an opportunity for an uncomplicated relationship where a man will not be interested in her for her money.

Psychiatrist David Levinson is intrigued and aroused by the mysterious woman. When they meet at the bar, the chemistry between them is sizzling, and they quickly head to a room in the hotel where they have incredible sex. They continue to meet every Wednesday night. They only know each other's first name and no one they know is aware of their affair. Because of their secret relationship, they can play out their sexual fantasies with each other.

But soon deeper feelings begin to develop between them. David thinks about Susan all the time and wants more than the Wednesday nights.   He wants to know Susan's last name but she refuses to tell him. Susan wants a lasting loving relationship, but is afraid if David learns who she is, he will only want her for her money.
