The Crystal Cave Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Crystal Cave

In “The Crystal Cave,” author Mary Stewart gives us a new look at two of the most famous characters in literary history: Merlin and King Arthur. Here, the author concentrates on the character of Merlin, from his early youth. She presents us with a character that is less fantastical and magical and concentrates on making him all the more human. She succeeds exceptionally well. We meet Arthur actually only briefly, as Stewart prepares us for her popular Merlin-Arthur Trilogy. Nevertheless, this first of the three books offers us a grand insight into Merlin and is absorbing in its own right.
