Three friends, Marty, Tommy and Fatty, are having a quiet drink in the 'Cock 'n' Feathers' inn when they are suddenly attacked by a gang of vicious fanglein thugs. Overpowered, they are forcemarched and imprisoned in the dreaded Fortress mines. In prison they learn about the magnificent but lethal Firestone, a gem of immense power, jealously guarded by Depostor, who wants to learn the secrets of its power and control it. The three are befriended by D'nescha, a disguised elf-lord who helps them escape and manages to secrete the Firestone in his pack, but in a terrible setback, the pack falls into a deep ravine and D'nescha dies. Left all alone in the dark, Fatty climbs down the ravine to rescue the Firestone, but he is confronted by two dreadful enemies. Finding his courage, Fatty faces up to his enemies Against all hope, help arrives, but Fatty learns that even when you win you pay a price.
