The Marriage Trap Book Summary and Study Guide

Detailed plot synopsis reviews of The Marriage Trap

Ellie Brans-Hill is an unassuming paid lady companion. But a chance encounter with her childhood friend from nobility, named Jack Rigg, put her into the spotlight of society and her bad luck started from there. Ellie needed to help pay off his brother's debts and she did it by disguising herself as Aurora, an extraordinary gamester. However after winning the money and before she could return back to her employers, she got straight into a riot and into the arms of Jack. Jack was instantly smitten with Aurora but Aurora tricked him and escaped him before he could know more about her. When Ellie returned to her employers, she was surprised to find herself the suspect of stealing her cousin's wife's diamonds. Seeing that she could only save herself by telling them that she had been with Jack at the time of murder, she suffered the ruin of her reputation. Jack was furious for being duped and trapped into marriage with Ellie for their unbecoming behavior. However Ellie completely absolved Jack of his duty and returned to London. Jack despite his anger of being tricked by Ellie/Aurora, felt responsible and contrite after discovering that Ellie couldn't find a job now that her reputation was ruined. With Ellie's brother in trouble and a suspect of murdering a French actress, Jack charged to Ellie's rescue. He married Ellie to protect her and her brother. But during their time together, Jack felt differently for Ellie and began to fall in love with her. Ellie knew that Jack didn't believe in love but she still fell in love with him. When an attempt to Ellie's brother materialized, Jack was afraid that Ellie might be in danger too. The only way to protect her was to find out the real murderer before he could hurt the love of his life.
