Young naive Anne Foster is an overweight, unpopular girl on which wealthy, popular Henry Owen sets his marriage sights on. In response to this out of the blue proposal, Anne heartily accepts. After only three weeks of marriage does Anne receive divorce papers from him. Amid gossip and rumors does Anne leave town.

Fast forward two years later and Henry and his best friend Alex see a beautiful girl of average build at a party. It turns out to be his ex-wife with her best friend Beatrice, who have concocted a plan in which Anne is to become the belle of society and woo Henry only to stab him back in the heart as was done to her. After getting to know Anne more, it doesn't take Henry long to figure out that he is slowly falling for her. Anne attempts to remain resolute in her contempt for the man, but his charm and sincerity tempt her in ways she doesn't expect. Also unexpected is the sprouting relationship between Alex and Beatrice, who are polar opposites of each other.

Subplots including the history of Sea Cliff and Anne's attempted relationship with a womanizer spice up the story without overbearing it. This is a great read for those who love to explore the feelings of love gone wrong and the possible future at a second chance.
