Denise is a mother of a child, Kyle, who at the age of 4 has not mastered how to talk yet. She quits her job as a 2nd grade teacher and moves to North Carolina, takes a waitressing job, and devotes her life to teaching her child to speak. Taylor is a local, who runs his own drywalling business, and is a volunteer firefighter. When Kyle is missing the events that follow bring Denise and Taylor together...if their pasts don't tear them appart. This book is now my close second favorite to Sparks' "The Notebook". If you don't cry steadly the last two chapters, you have no heart! Thanks for another great read N.S.!!

Denise came into town on a rainy night. She was going slow but got hit by a big rig and crashed into a tree. Little did she know that she would then meet a very special person. Taylor (firefighter) found her car and was able to get her out. However he didn't see her son. When she came to she was in frantic state needing to find her son. As it grew darker the towns people and rescue crews were out looking for her four year old son. Taylor found her son and they began a great friendship. Kyle and Taylor got along well even though Kyle has a speech problem and he doesn't always communicate well. Denise was very thankful to Taylor and was attracted to him. Taylor feels the same way but isn't very good at showing his feelings. He still has some issues in his closet he needs to get through. Denise can help but will he let her?

This is a wonderful book about a woman struggling with money and a child who has a learning disability when she meets a man who is a carpenter and a volunteer fire man and is extremely good with the woman's (Denise) child. He helps the little boy to talk and understand words. She meets him because her son gets lost from escaping the car after an accident and the man saves the little boy with his other volunteer fire men friends. This was an outstanding book and I didn't want it to end.

The review of this Book prepared by Cara McClinton

This book grabs you from the start. The way Nicholas Sparks pulls you into these characters is amazing. From the beginning, you are hoping that the three main characters can overcome all odds and become a family. With the twists and turns that Sparks adds, it makes this book extremely hard to put down. From the scary rescue at the beginning, through the twists and turns of starting a relationship...I loved this book!
